A good healthy diet during pregnancy is very important for your babies growth and development! Many people tend to slack on their eating habits during this time, however it really should be one of the MOST important times to focus on your nutrition and consume the healthiest foods!
YOUR BABY DEPENDS ON IT!
Although I know the first trimester can be awful!!! You most likely have lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, exhaustion and just feeling crummy! But try your best to incorporate all the proper food groups during this time. And make sure to be taking your prenatal! If you are feeling sick during your pregnancy I have some tips and tricks HERE.
Your babies development solely relies on YOU and your nutritional intake.... So if you weren't a healthy eater prior to your pregnancy, there is no better time than now to change your habits!!!
The habits your instill now will not only ensure that your baby is getting all the proper nutrients he/she needs, but it will help get you on the right track after you have your baby. While nursing it is also important to consume whole, natural foods for your babies health.... and long after it is not only important for your body, but its important to set a good example for your children!
In the first 5 years of life your childs eating habits are developed.... so make sure to instill healthy eating habits from the get-go!
Use this time to work on your own eating habits to create a lasting, positive, impression on your childs life, from utero on!
During pregnancy, when you ingest something the molecules of glucose, proteins, fats, and vitamins, are absorbed into your blood stream. The molecules then flow to the placenta and are transferred to the baby’s bloodstream, which then travels through the umbilical cord directly into your baby.
Now remember, this process is on going, so ANYTHING you ingest goes directly into your baby through the absorption in your blood.... This means that your baby is put at risk whenever you introduce something into your bloodstream that would be bad for your baby. This includes alcohol, drugs, toxins from cigarettes and also FOODS AND DRINKS that contain poison. Yes, do your research- some foods we eat that are processed, literally have poison in them!

Well here are the pregnancy basics... It is very, very important that you eat a diet high in Nutritional value. This means Folic Acids, Calcium, protein and Vitamin C, D, B and E.
Here are some examples of different foods containing these vital nutrients for your babies health.
What food groups to focus on by Trimester:
- First Trimester - Vitamins A & D for proper organ development.
- Second Trimester - Calcium & protein for good bone and muscle development.
- Third Trimester - Omega-3 fats are vital for brain development.
Being a Mom of soon to be THREE, I myself find it difficult to remember things and keep track of what I ate throughout the day. So I decided to create this chart. This chart helps me to check off what I have eaten in the day... and allows me to know what I still need to eat!
Other Tips:
- For your Body to Absorb as much Iron as possibly, eat iron rich foods with foods high in vitamin C. Avoid any Calcium intake at the same time.
- You should drink at least half of your pre-pregnancy body weight in ounces of water a day. If exercising you should drink at least one more 8oz glass a day
- Try to eat a complex carb and Protein at every snack or meal
- Eat at least 5-6 times a day, with about 3 hours in between
Here is my weekly meal plan for this up coming week.
I hope this will provide you with some guidance and ideas for your own pregnancy meal planning.
